Description
Kamp Kiwanis, in upstate New York, offers a unique Kamp experience for campers ages 8-14, a CIT/Teen program for
teens ages 15-17 and for adults with high functioning special needs ages 18+. The child program at Kamp is designed to
mainstream all kampers including up to 20 each session with special needs. We want our Kampers to explore the world
through environmental and cultural activities while respecting the rights and dignity of all kampers and staff. Kampers
and staff work together to build self-esteem and cooperative peer relationships. Kamp Kiwanis offers a special place for
self-discovery, laughter, fun and personal growth. Through small group interactions, kampers have the opportunity to
learn more about themselves and others as well as increase their self-confidence. By offering positive role models and
challenging activities, we foster kampers’ development of new skills and respect for the community.
SUMMARY
The Health Director is responsible for overall supervision of health and sanitation of Kamp including maintaining
inventory of first aid and medical supplies, reviewing special considerations for each kamper with appropriate staff,
distributing medication, maintaining log of all accidents/incidents and treatment, and communication with
parents/guardians.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Pre-Camp Responsibilities
o Coordinate with Executive Director to order first aid and medical supplies for use by summer camp
o Prepare Infirmary for opening of season, including inventory, bedding, food, etc.
o Review all camper and staff physical examinations and medical forms and make note of any special
considerations on a master list of health concerns.
o Check with campers and parents/guardians about medical concerns, activity restrictions, medication, allergy
information, etc. for campers.
o Attendance & Participation in sessions at Staff Orientation (to lead discussions on specific and non-specific
medical needs of all campers and staff)
o Prepare and maintain first aid kits for various on-site locations and off campus trips.
Supervision
o Attend and participate in staff meetings to have ongoing discussions with staff about new campers’ needs.
o Collect all medication that campers have and dispense at prescribed times.
o Carry out the Standing Orders as approved by physician annually.
o Dispense over-the-counter medications as appropriate
o Assess campers and staff who are ill or injured to determine if further medical attention is needed.
o Contact parents of ill or injured campers and staff (if appropriate) and update them as necessary
o Documentation of all injuries and care rendered. This involves documentation of all over-the-counter
medicines, first aid treatment, communication with parents, doctors or any other off-camp facilities.
o Maintain proper cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance of all nursing equipment and facilities
o Close up infirmary at the end of camp season
Administrative Duties
o Update medical log and individual medical records daily
o Inform Executive Director and parents/guardians of any incidents or accidents that have occurred
o Report needed repairs in writing to Camp Ranger
o Maintain inventory of supplies
o Work with Executive Director on recommendations for changes.
COMPENSATION
Salary starting at $1700/wk depending on experience and qualifications.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The
requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:
Education/Experience:
o RN, NP/PNP, PA, MD, or EMT
o Previous experience working with children
o Ability to form positive relationships with campers, parents, colleagues & supervisor
Certification:
o Current certificate in an acceptable first aid training program or ability to obtain.
o Current certificate in an acceptable cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training program or ability to obtain.
