Job Description Summary:  

Our organization provides Data as a service (DaaS), standardized reporting and focuses on Healthcare Insights and Interoperability to change the standard of care delivered to patients. The PO acts as a  liaison to meet with clinicians and business users to elicit data-related use case epics and user story requirements. The PO will be critical to ensure necessary data and functional and non-functional requirements are documented within Informatics to help prioritize and groom product backlog to ensure the highest amount of business value is delivered upfront with competing enterprise data management priorities.
The Qualified Candidate thrives in a  fast-paced entrepreneurial agile scrum environment. The product owner will own user stories from ideation to business intelligence deployment.

–Overal Responsibiliites - Product Ownership

  • Proactive enterprise-focused entrepreneurial approach to building innovative informatics solutions
  • Represent the voice of the customer (VoC) to schedule, arrange and lead discovery activities with stakeholders and translation of these findings into product requirements in the development of epics and user stories through facilitation of interviews, user journeys, workshops, site visits, joint application design (JAD) sessions, and other tactics to elicit initial requirements and scope of work
  • Product backlog creation, planning, and grooming activities to develop up-front user stories to define “what” the data user needs from the system by elicitation, definition (write/document), and analysis of business and functional requirements prioritized in the form of user stories gathered from stakeholders to ensure alignment strategic initiatives
  • Produce mature user stories to drive our product portfolio as a result of engagements with data stewards in to understand, analyze complex data systems, define and document key data element requirements, flow, relationships, lineage, and dependencies
  • Define user stories and development subtasks with detailed product requirements, development, integration, verification, validation, and launch of releases

 – Documentation

  • Assists in the creation, deployment and maintenance of BI catalog of reports, dictionaries and glossaries
  • Performs ongoing analysis of scope, content, quality, and delivery of product work with data integration informatist, analysts and developers to complete planning, development, testing, and implementation of new products 
  • Ability to learn healthcare data source systems from both the front end and back-end data structure to assist in data mapping recommendations 
  • Demonstrates competency with disparate health care data sources for ingestion, metatdata, mappings, ontology management, data catalog management, reference data, rules/hierarchies and normalization.
  • Familiarization of healthcare data integrations, coding standards/systems, terminologies, systems engineering concepts, data modeling, data architecture, data warehousing, databases, and datamarts to ensure full-fledged requirements documentation.

 – DevOps

  • Leads product backlog refinement and sprint planning activities to ensure VoC is heard in determining upcoming sprint iterations while discerning product backlog priorities with competing DaaS, BI Projects and technical debt reduction initiatives
  • Collaboration with project teams to drive project plan, metrics, specifications, design, development, integration, verification, validation and launch of solutions consistent with organizational development processes
  • Enjoys participation in ‘solutionizing’ sessions with the team while also able to work independently in support of organizational initiatives to meet project deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ensure throughput of user stories and subtasks to assure proper development, testing, and quality assurance

  • Participate in Scrum, Scrum of Scrums, Sprint Planning, Retrospective Sprints, and Hardening Sprints as directed to serve as an intermediary to articulate intended user stories for product and process improvements

  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently while multi-tasked to meet critical deadlines in a rapidly changing environment with communication of project progress consistently with managers and stakeholders
  • Consult the business regarding educational opportunities, process improvement, and business requirements to drive tool selection and consolidation activities

Position Qualifications/Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in business analytics, computer science, engineering, accounting, finance, management information systems, or another related field. In lieu of a degree, 5+ years of experience is required or the equivalent combination of education and experience


  • Certified Product Owner or Scrum Master training preferred
  • Lean six sigma green belt (LSSGB) or higher preferred

Previous Experience

  • Greater than five (5) years or equivalent experience in an agile environment as a Product Owner with customer-facing roles gathering, analyzing, and documenting user stories inclusive of business, functional, and technical requirements
  • Professional healthcare data related experience within clinical oncology preferred
  • Technical competencies within SQL, query/load required data using data governance, product management tools (e.g. Azure DevOps) and data visualization (e.g. PowerBI) tools preferred
  • Health care information technology familiarity with electronic medical records, imaging, laboratory, etc. to create enriched patient data preferred

Core Capabilities: 

  • Understanding of healthcare data quality needs
  • Work closely with the Director of Informatics and business stakeholders to build products that will create the DaaS service line and BI Reporting optimization

Computer Skills: 

  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required
  • Familiarization with SQL, SSMS, SSRS, and data visualization tools
