General Summary:

The Medical Coding, Associate Director manages Medical Coders and has deep knowledge of Medical Coding related tasks, tools and processes. The incumbent is accountable for overall quality and delivery of Medical Coding on all Vertex Clinical Trials.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides advanced solutions and manages members of the global coding team to ensure consistency of approaches across studies.

Oversees coding activities for multiple studies and programs ensuring optimal efficiency through effective leadership.

Fosters interdisciplinary understanding within the groups and integrate activities with those of other groups and departments.

Seeks out and plans technical direction for Medical Coding and promotes technological innovation

Proactively makes recommendations to appropriate business units regarding the development and use of new tools and goals that further support and strengthen Vertex's development capabilities

Supports and facilitates implementation of new systems/tools.

Develops and conducts in-house training and mentorship where appropriate.

Supports or leads the Dictionary Advisory Committee (DAC) and provides global coding dictionary support.

Works with the CDM Management team to define functional goals and performance requirements for the CDM department.

Monitors the activities of staff and provides them reliable guidance to succeed and grow

Oversees effective project management of the development and / or enhancement of policies and SOPs

Interacts with subordinates, outside customers and functional peer groups at various management levels

Knowledge and Skills:

Displays highly-evolved writing and oral presentation skills that enables to lead and implement initiatives and goals within and across functional areas

Possesses comprehensive knowledge of Medical Coding and advanced knowledge of all relevant disciplines related to the drug development process

Significant experience of implementing complex integrations and coding system configurations as well as proven problem solving abilities

Able to lead a team of coding professionals to include their performance management, mentoring and career development.

Education and Experience:

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree

Typically requires 8 years of work experience and 2 years of management experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Work experience in data management or relevant comparable background

Certified MedDRA Coder (CMC) preferable
