Description

Objective of Position: Prior to camp start-up, the Director of Summer Camp Programming facilitates the development, implementation, and oversight of camp programming for the purpose of Ferry Hill Day Camp and any camp-related activity. They execute the mission of Ferry Hill Day Camp which is to offer a traditional day camp experience that also extends to inclusion support. The position time frame is approximately June 20, 2022 – August 26, 2022.

Summary of Responsibilities and Duties: The Director of Summer Camp Programming is responsible for all aspects of: planning, organizing, updating and developing existing and new curriculum and program materials; camp committee & board budget approved oversight; hiring and training of staff; camp enrollment and camper records; managing camp staff and site, in compliance with all local and state guidelines, and the policies and procedures of the Ferry Hill Day Camp and Community Center, Inc. The Director of Summer Camp Programming will ensure that employees, CITs, and campers participate and create a safe, team-centered and inclusive environment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the Summer Camp Director in the implementation of the instructional camp program to provide each camper with age and developmentally expected activities in an organized and inclusive environment.
  • Promotes the safety and well-being within the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth areas that are in accordance with the Ferry Hill Day Camp and Community Center’s policies and mission and local, State, and Federal guidelines and laws.
  • Responsible for communicating with instructors, guest speakers, and volunteers who contribute to Ferry Hill Day Camp and ensures proper background query results are satisfactory prior to their arrival.
  • Ability to conduct needs assessment and program evaluation to ensure that the programs are meeting the needs of all camp attendees to include campers using inclusion supports.
  • Ensures the selection of campers and program participants is compliant with State and Federal nonprofit regulations and oversees intake process to assess needs for inclusion support.
  • Ensures implementation of programming curriculum and inclusive practices under the Universal Design model for inclusion strategies and best practices, seeking guidance from the Board of Directors and designated camp committee members.
  • Reports all issues related to health, behavior and other instances immediately to the Healthcare Consultant and Board of Directors and ensure staff compliance following medical procedures and first aid rules and regulations including compliance with state and local laws for filing of reports.
  • Stays up to date with current health and safety protocols, particularly those related to COVID-19. Develops a plan to adhere to current requirements and communicates Ferry Hill Camp policies with families for preventing and responding to COVID-19.
  • Facilitates small group meetings and team planning sessions as needed. Provide staff with ongoing performance feedback and a formal performance review at the conclusion of camp.
  • Notifies the appointed Board member/camp committee member if he/she must be absent or late for duty for any reason.
  • Oversees and ensures the completion of all paperwork and the supervision of camp staff that they adhere to their appointed job responsibilities.
  • Assesses the overall camp program to identify any changes that need to be made for optimum functioning including disability and inclusion practices.
  • Creates and implements a curriculum that is inclusive and individualized as needed.
  • Oversee, manage and be responsible for the camp budget approved by the Board of Directors to include verification of weekly payroll levels, camp fees and expenses, communicating weekly with board treasurer if budget exceeds approved amounts.
  • Communicate and manage compliance with established purchasing procedures to include purchase requests, purchase orders, petty cash process and expense reimbursements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Background and qualifications required:

  1. Master’s degree or equivalent in Education, Recreation or related area or a minimum of 5 years experience. Master’s degree or equivalent in Special Education or Human Services a strong plus.
  2. Experience in social learning environments, such as recreation or educational-based settings. Experience in a disability inclusive setting and implementing inclusive strategies preferred.
  3. Program design, budget creation, and personnel management experience required.
  4. Must possess good leadership abilities, management, and organizational skills and be patient, enthusiastic and self-controlled in a broad range of situations.
  5. Must have the ability to work collaboratively with others with minimal supervision.
  6. Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Docs and online registration systems.
  7. CTRS certification is a plus
  8. ACA Camp Director certification strongly preferred.
