Description

POSITION PURPOSE

This position in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program has academic, instruction, service, practice and/or scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the program. Co-Directors of Clinical Education participate in university governance and assist the program director to plan, coordinate facilitate, administer, and monitor all activities related to the program.

This position will assist in the oversight of student clinical practice placements, state regulatory compliance activities, and student clinical practice hour recordings for the post-baccalaureate DNP/FNP track and the post-Master’s certificate tracks. This position will ensure that student clinical placements meet or exceed AACN and NONPF guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication

a. Maintain optimal communication with administration, faculty, students and community partners regarding university and program initiatives.

b. Coordinate with other Co-Director(s) of Clinical Education in all placement, skills education, and documentation activities.

Student Instruction and Curriculum Management

a. Participate in Graduate Nursing program curriculum and course design, assessment, and evaluation.

b. Participate in Graduate Nursing student admission, progression, and advisement activities.

c. Provide direct student instruction in online, on-site, and clinical settings.

d. Participate in pre-admission activities including marketing, recruitment, and enrollment.

e. Prepare class materials using best practices in higher education and graduate nursing practice.

Clinical Practice Education

a. Direct students as they select and secure clinical practice sites during their program of study.

b. Ensure that clinical practice sites and clinical practice preceptors meet or exceed AACN and NONPF guidelines for all Nursing graduate programs.

c. Work closely with other Co-Director(s) of Clinical Education, PD, and RMUoHP administrators in leading efforts to ensure that all state regulatory compliance requirements are met and maintained for each student placement.

d. Collaborate with the Utah State Board of Nursing in promoting RMUoHP graduate nursing education mission, philosophy, and methods.

e. Work closely with the faculty members teaching in courses with clinic components to ensure that clinical practice placements introduce, amplify, and/or reinforce course concepts.

f. Assist in the supervision of the recording of student clinical hours in clinical practice settings.

g. Work closely with other Co-Director(s) of Clinical Education and PD in both quality improvement initiatives and in university and program assessment and accreditation activities relative to clinical practice settings.

Governance

a. Initiate, adopt, evaluate and advance the DNP program’s mission, goals and program outcomes of the DNP program and the University.

b. Provide opportunity for students and peers to evaluate teaching effectiveness.

c. Evaluate and recommend faculty members for promotion.

d. Participate in all regularly scheduled DNP meetings and other University events.

e. Provide opportunity for students and peers to evaluate both clinical practice settings and clinical practice preceptors for quality and effectiveness.

f. Work closely with the Director of Clinical Education and PD in program assessment, marketing, and student recruitment/enrollment/retention activities.

g. Orient and mentor clinical practice preceptors to their teaching roles and responsibilities.

h. Participate in the orientation and mentoring of faculty members to their teaching roles and responsibilities relative to clinical supervision.

Scholarship and/or Practice

a. Engage in scholarly activities commensurate with appointment and rank.

b. Maintain a clinical practice commensurate with licensure and appropriate for appointment and rank.

Leadership and Service

a. Serve on program, university, state, and national committees that are appropriate for their rank and experience.

b. Participate in professional and community activities for the purpose of bringing education, service, and research together for the improvement of health care delivery.

c. Accept opportunities for membership on standing and ad-hoc committees of the program and University as elected or appointed.



Requirements

WORKING REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS

Education/Certification:

• Current unencumbered RN license

• Current APRN certification (preferred)

• Earned doctoral degree

• Recent nursing teaching degree/certificate OR minimum of 2 years of recent university-level teaching (preferred)

Required Knowledge:

Demonstrate knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting contemporary graduate nursing education

Experience Required:

• Active in professional nursing organizations at local, state, and/or national levels (preferred)

• Recent nursing teaching degree/certificate OR Minimum of 2 years of recent university-level teaching (preferred)

• Two or more years of recent experience as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) (preferred)

• Administrative experience in academic governance and/or clinical practice

• Consistent record of peer-reviewed presentations and publications (preferred)

Skills/Abilities:

• Able to work with students, faculty/staff with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

• Demonstrated ability to design and conduct independent and/or collaborative research

• Able to participate in all aspects of peer review and shared governance

• Able to pass a criminal background search prior to commencement of employment

• Strong leadership, communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving skills (preferred)

• Able to work both independently and as an interdisciplinary team member (Preferred)

• Able to travel, as needed (Preferred) Remote with on-site week requirements 3 times per year.
