Position Summary: The Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and assessing the provision of nursing service to all residents through the supervision and administration of the Nursing, Admissions, and Infection Control departments. Responsible to ensure that the health and safety of residents is met. Responsible for ensuring that the facility remains in compliance with current regulations and standards.
Job Duties:
Assures nursing services provided are consistent with current standards of practice and state and federal regulations. Develops, maintains and implements policies and procedures in conjunction with Administrator, Medical Director, and Consultant Pharmacist that assure quality of care.
Responsible for Vulnerable Adult Investigation in conjunction with the Administrator. Reports incidents as appropriate and according to facility guidelines and state regulations.
Develops and monitors budgets for Nursing, Medical Records, and Infection Control in conjunction with the facility Administrator.
Provides input to the facility reimbursement systems including MDS RUG’s, HMO contracts, and private pay.
Assist with training of facility staff including development of nursing competencies and audits.
Supervises medication practices and medical equipment used in the building.
Assures that staff clearly understands and follows all resident care procedures.
Handles resident and employee grievances and documents on appropriate forms for referral to supervisor.
Conducts quality audits throughout the facility to ensure compliance with regulations.
Actively maintains or monitors relationships with contract vendors, e.g., Medical Director, Consultant Pharmacist, Dental, Audiology and Podiatric Services, etc.
Responsible for Interviewing and hiring staff based on facility needs.
Leads staff retention efforts while developing, coaching, and mentoring team members, and fosters a positive, supportive team culture.
Provides staff recognition, coaching, counseling, and discipline as appropriate.
Monitors the daily activities of the facility and personnel.
Schedules routine staff meetings to problem-solve and communicate
To assist in providing a dignified, respectful, resident-centered environment for residents.
Requirements
Director of Nursing experience desired in Long Term Care.
Proven track record of successfully implementing quality improvement programs designed to enhance quality person-centered care, improve quality indicators, etc.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and registered as an RN in the state of Minnesota.
BSN preferred.
10+ years of nursing experience required, with 5 years being in long-term care.
8+ years of prior supervisory experience required.
